Excerpt from Invasion
The Bellona was hove to, her sails furled and her guns run out. Kydd stood on the quarterdeck, looking out over the calm sea. The sun was setting, casting a golden glow over the water.
Kydd could see the French fleet in the distance. They were anchored in a line of battle, their ships of the line towering over the smaller frigates and corvettes.
Kydd knew that the French were planning to invade England. He had intercepted a message from the French admiral, which outlined the invasion plans.
Kydd's mission was to prevent the invasion. He had to destroy the French fleet before they could reach England.
Kydd took a deep breath and turned to his crew. "Men," he said, "we have a difficult task ahead of us, but I know that we can do it. We are the best sailors in the world, and we will not let our country down."
